People just find different territory to argue about - instead of fighting 
over access to source code, they fight over the right to have one's changes 
included in the official release, or the right to determine the
direction of future development, or the right to select the flavor of 
license to be applied, or interoperability with systems created or owned by 
unpopular people, or the correctness of others' choices.

Free software lets people who fund development cooperate in areas where 
that won't screw up their competitive advantages - and that's nice for them 
and for the rest of the world, who get to use the code for free - but it's 
not like it eliminates office politics. It just expands the scope of the
