Subject: Economics of software distribution

So you think (and I tend to agree), that you cannot really make money
by selling your free software, and you cannot really make money off
your free documentation. So that means we're stuck with all the dreary
stuff of doing support (in various ways, distribution included).

Does anyone have anything to counter this? I don't. I've never made
anything from Free/Shareware. Does anyone have a better model that
still feels "ethically right"?

Maybe I'm idealistic, because I still enjoy writing freeware, though
the (material) rewards are pitiful.
