For the sake of this question, you could replace any proprietary OS
for "Be".  For MS there's DJGPP and Cygwin, both have large
collections of free software running on proprietary OSs.  Same for any
GNU software on proprietary Unixes.  SGI ships GNU software in IRIX.

Why would Be's case be special?
