Actually, there is a threshold of popularity above which you can make
money doing concerts only (though you'ld lose a lot on record sales).
That's maybe 10-20 groups in the US.  The rest use concerts to drive
album sales.

If you can guarantee enough signal degradation in the copying process,
however, you WANT people to copy your stuff because it encourages
album sales.
