Actually, that's case law, not statute; the Supreme Court held (in
Sony v. CBS, if my memory does not fail me) that the right to tape
television programs in their entirety for the purpose of "time
shifting" does not constitute an infringement, but falls within the
scope of Section 107 "fair use".
