   Umm, the way it used to work, he'd make 20k a year by working for
   about a month, and that would be *enough* for him and he'd spend the
   rest of his time on his mission.  So no, this is *not* a bad thing, or

In fact, he would (and still does) arrange to do some traveling so
that he could evangelize the FS movement.  Many of his gigs were
speaking dates, ostensibly to talk about Emacs.

   The living-like-a-hermit part is just an MIT/geek thing...

No, that's just a Stallman thing.  This is a man who has had more than
his share of strange housing failures, including having his house burn
down while he wasn't there.  (He received an email about it while the
fire was in progress.)
