   This is true only in a short-term analysis.  If, in the long term, the
   free software delivers real value, the organization becomes hostage to
   the single person (who may decide to cash in their options and start an
   internet company).  A company like Cygnus solutions can spread that risk
   across so many people that when an engineer has a change of heart, the
   customer is not exposed to undue risk.

So what if the organization becomes hostage to cygnus?

In the begining, I think cygnus's intent was to not get involved in
proprietary software.  This seems to have changed...
